When to go to Kashmir

Tulip season, the monsoon pause, and the quiet of December — a month-by-month note from the vale.

Spring, if you can

April is when the Mughal gardens fill and the tulip garden at Siraj Bagh has its two short weeks. Days are mild, nights still need a shawl, and the meadows above Gulmarg are not yet fully open.

High summer

June and July are the busiest. Houseboats book out. If you travel then, stay two nights on the lake and two in Pahalgam — the Lidder is louder, the pine cooler.

Autumn gold

Late September through October is our preferred window for couples. Chinars turn. The light is long. The tourist buses have gone.

Winter, with eyes open

December to February is snow, closed roads to Sonamarg, and a different Srinagar. Beautiful if you want it still. We only send travellers who are prepared for heating that is not what a European hotel means by heating.

Write to us with your dates — we will be honest if a week does not suit the vale.
